Wayne Cares: Suit Drive 2008 Results

From April 18 - May 2, 2008, Wayne Cares conducted a back-to-work suit drive to benefit Jackets for Jobs. Jackets for Jobs, a Michigan WORKS! Affiliate, is a nonprofit corporation that provides interview-quality, professional business clothing at no charge to economically disadvantaged individuals in the Metropolitan Detroit Area. The organization is operated by dedicated volunteers, who provide clients with this additional tool to enhance their marketable skills. Volunteers serve as personal shoppers to help each client select the most appropriate clothing and accessories available. All clients receive one free, fully accessorized business outfit for job interviews, plus two outfits when a job is secured.

Three locations (Alumni House, the Welcome Center and the School of Business Administration) served as campus drop-off locations for donations for Jackets for Jobs. We set a modest goal of collecting at least 300 pieces of clothing for the suit drive. Much to our delight, and a true testimony to the generosity of Wayne State faculty and staff, the Back to Work Suit Drive was a resounding success. More than 3,100 items of business clothing and accessories were donated.

Thank You Wayne Cares
