Town Hall for Detroit Mayoral Special General Election

On April 29, 2009, Wayne State University hosted separate town hall sessions with Detroit mayoral candidates Ken Cockrel, Jr. and Dave Bing. Held in Wayne State University’s Spencer Partrich Auditorium in the Law School, each candidate had their own 45-minute town hall meeting to discuss their vision and plans for the city of Detroit. The town hall meetings were moderated by Craig Fahle, host of Detroit Today which airs on WDET 101.9-FM. Questions to each candidate were asked by a three-person panel. The panelists were Huel Perkins, evening news anchor for Fox 2 Detroit, Rochelle Riley, metro columnist for the Detroit Free Press, and Bankole Thompson, senior editor of the Michigan Chronicle.

Additionally, Wayne State University asked key questions of each major candidate for this race about issues important to the future of Detroit. Each candidate was allowed up to 150 words to answer each question. WSU did not edit or modify those answers. Below each question you will see each candidate’s response. The City Clerk is the Chief Elections Officer of the city and is responsible for voter registration in Detroit.
